On 9th May, the team from Snelling Business Systems joined staff, students and members of the public at the unveiling of a pioneering new art gallery for Cambridge.
The Ruskin Digital Gallery is the first of its kind in the United Kingdom. Artwork in the gallery is displayed in digital format, on state-of-the-art high definition screens, but the design of the gallery also allows the building to maintain its historic role as a conventional exhibition space, with traditional hanging and exhibiting of the art.
The theme of the event celebrated past, present and future, with artwork for the opening exhibition displayed both digitally and in analogue format, and guests attending the event were given the opportunity to explore the newly refurbished building. Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Thorne gave an opening address, followed by keynote speakers Professor Derrik Ferney, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Law & Social Sciences and Assistant Director of the Cultures of the Digital Economy Research Institute, Dr Samantha Rayner.
Steve Royans, Sales Manager for Snelling Business Systems, said :
"It has been a real privilege to work with Anglia Ruskin University on this innovative, pioneering project. It is the first of its kind in the UK and as state-of-the-art digital technology and integrated audio visual systems are at the heart of the development, it has been extremely exciting for us to design and carry out the installation. Seeing it in action at the launch event, with guests so obviously inspired by the artwork on display is particularly rewarding.".
Located in the heart of the Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge Campus, The Ruskin Digital Gallery is open to students and the public alike and all exhibitions in the gallery are free to attend. The unique exhibition space, with vaulted ceilings, light, and character, and the state-of-the-art technology blends seamlessly with the period character of the building and the university warmly welcomes visitors to this exciting new venue for the region.
