BACKGROUND

In May 2010, following a competitive tender submission, Snelling Business Systems (SBS) were appointed to deliver the design and installation of the audio visual requirements for the Norwich University College of the Arts.

The £1.5 million refurbishment to the Victorian school building, which is nestled in the heart of Norwich, was an investment to ensure that the university's Animation and Games Art & Design courses maintained their position at the forefront of media education and the state-of-the-art audio visual facilities played a significant role in this.

Work on the audio visual install began on the site in late August 2010 and was completed on time and to budget before the official opening of the new school in September 2010, in time for a new academic year.

TECHNICAL SOLUTION

The two media labs were fitted with a control system giving the capability of joining the two rooms, with ceiling mounted LCD projection equipment and a bespoke sliding screen. The installation also included seamless presentation switcher scalers, sources including iMac and BluRay as well as auxiliary inputs, 100v line audio systems with wireless microphone systems and a rack enclosure within custom millwork housing.

The Lecture / Seminar Room was fitted with a ceiling mounted LCD projector, bespoke branded lectern with integrated control system and automated electric projection screen within the architectural recess. In addition, sources including iMac and BluRay as well as auxiliary inputs, were provided and a 5.1 DTS surround sound system was integrated into the system.

A 50" full HD plasma display as well as a mobile trolley housing iMac and BluRay were fitted into the two seminar rooms and a signage system, featuring a recessed 65" full HD plasma display, was installed to work in conjunction with the client issue signage system.

All design work, engineering, planning, installation and programming was conducted in house by Snelling Business Systems and the project was delivered within budget and on time.
