BACKGROUND
In October 2009, Illumina Inc, one of the world's leading developers, manufacturers, and marketers of next-generation life-science tools and integrated systems for the analysis of genetic variation and biological function, took occupation of their new
European Headquarters.
Based in Chesterford Park, which is a 250 acre site just 25 minutes from the heart of Cambridge, the headquarters occupy the Park's 41,500 square foot Gonville Building.
The project to move the company into the building was extensive, requiring architects, interior designers, building contractors and specialists, to work together on the design, planning, implementation and construction.
Snelling Business Systems were appointed to deliver the audio visual requirement, which aimed to combine audio visual excellence with operational simplicity, incorporating crystal clear display solutions with convenient input facilities for meetings and corporate presentations.
AIMS OF THE PROJECT
The building was designed to deliver a bespoke European headquarters for Illumina, and carried with it an extensive state-of-the-art audio visual requirement for the multiple conference suites, boardrooms, meeting rooms and training rooms, enhanced by the latest signage systems in public areas.
Snelling Business Systems worked hand-in-hand with the client and fit-out contractors, ISG Interior Exterior, to deliver the multiple audio visual systems for the development.
TECHNICAL SOLUTION
The two conference suites were fitted with AMX touch panel controls and RMS (Resource Management Suite), with the ability to join rooms when required. A DSP audio matrix was installed and the ceiling was fitted with high brightness projection equipment, recessed electric projection screens, and multiple low impedance loudspeakers. The bespoke lectern was installed with an interactive panel and the entire system, including control of lighting, electric blinds and fire alarm was incorporated.
The two boardrooms were each installed with 65" full HD commercial LCD screens and AMX control with RMS. One boardroom included bespoke TeamMate furniture, whilst the main boardroom had a recessed automated motorised arm. HD video conferencing was also fitted throughout to enhance the user experience.
Each of the eight individual meeting rooms were equipped with push button control, commercial 42" and 32" LCD screens with full laptop and PC connectivity. In addition, two training rooms were also installed with Widescreen SMART interactive boards with the same functionality as the meeting rooms.
The building was fitted with a state-of-the-art signage system comprising 42" LCD screens, CAT6 transmission equipment and ONELAN signage with Freeview TV.
The installation and programming was conducted entirely in-house by Snelling Business Systems and the project was delivered within budget and on time. Snelling Business Systems were also appointed to provide ongoing maintenance, training and support.
